Dr Mark Upton
Soon after completing my MRCGP I worked as a locum Doctor. The challenge then was translating bookish "knowing that" into everyday "knowing how". More than 20 years later, still feeling privileged to work at the interface of people and science, there seems less time for the old knowing how, because we spend so much of our time compensating for fragmented NHS pathways of care.
I was born and educated in London, trained at University College Hospital where I qualified MBBS in 1987. I escaped North to live near the crags and fells of Yorkshire and Cumbria, and work as a part-time GP partner on Teesside. I am a committed generalist, and have a clinical and research interest in chronic respiratory diseases.
