What is a Chambers?
It’s a group of doctors (and other healthcare professionals - we welcome nurse practitioners & practice nurses) who employ a set of backroom staff to make life simpler.
We have administrative support to make working as a locum straightforward - they book our sessions, negotiate rates, deal with an problems which arise, invoice practices (who pay us directly) and they sort out our pensions.
We also have peer support - we meet monthly as a “virtual practice” to catch up, have a meal, review significant events, do training, and share learning, or invite a speaker. There’s always someone on the end of the phone if there’s a problem, or you need someone to discuss an issue with. We also provide additional support & mentoring to newly qualified GPs.
Aren’t you just an agency?
What do agencies do? They find you work, and the practice pays the agency who take off a significant proportion of the payment. (Talking to some local practices, agency fees are at least 30% higher than ours). You can’t pay into the NHS pension for agency work. And agencies don’t provide the support and quality control of the chambers.
What’s in it for practices?
Making life easier.
You make one request - by phone, email, or via our web booking system. The chambers looks for a doctor who is available, and books them in. You get access to their information from the online system - their GMC registration, their indemnity, their CV, their mandatory training records - all those things the CQC wants from you.
You negotiate with the admin team what you need that day - appointments, visits, phone calls - or on-call duties - and set up the day as you need, ensuring that the GP has time to do those things safely & thoroughly.
We try to be flexible - we’ll answer queries and support your admin team as much as possible within the timescale - that’s taken into account when we set up the day.
You know that the doctor who arrives will be up to date, committed to quality, and helpful to you & your staff. They will be involved in education, and appraisal, and be keeping up to date. They are supported by an enthusiastic peer group.
And if there is a problem - then contact the admin team or the chambers lead, & we’ll do what we can to sort it out - including working together should there be any significant events.
What else do you do?
Our GPs are often multi-skilled - we can provide GPs who will teach your medical students, supervise your registrars, provide a sexual health clinic, or support changes in your practice systems. Talk to us!
We're a practice needing locums - What do we need to do?
If you’re interested, contact us for more information, to ask questions & have a chat, or to set up the system for your practice
We're locums but not in Cumbria - can you help us?
Probably.... If you're in Lancashire, our GPs already work in that area. If you're further afield, then we can help you set up a Medical Chambers in your area?
